about

Following on from '19', this is an instrumental album of tunes with an emphasis on improvisation. It's sort of jazz. I call it 'Robot Jazz' because of the disruptive conceit at its heart. I sketch out the tunes and then encourage my more jazzily inclined musical friends to improvise over them. I then play the 'drums', keyboard and bass parts and effectively fake the interactions that would happen if we were a real quartet of quintet rather than just strangers in the night, or afternoon.
John Hurn is one of my favourite guitarists and I love his playing on my tunes. Gary Matthews is a long term musical collaborator and plays in many styles on various manifestations of Now Zero's fractured musical personality. Gary and John met briefly at a gig we three attended but have never actually played together.
