1970s 03:45
A Hideous permanent wave A Little House On The Prairie dress On strike for better pay The power-cuts haven’t started yet Feels like the 1970s Are coming back to haunt us Feels like the 1970s Are coming back America provoking The Reds All we hear is the music of dinosaurs We’re scared we’ll die in our beds One rule for the rich And one rule for the poor Feels like the 1970s Are coming back to haunt us Feels like the 1970s Are coming back Your neighbour voted National Front But they call it something else this week The party in charge Are all cunts The Boat People still come Because life’s still sweet here Feels like the 1970s Are coming back to haunt us Feels like the 1970s Are coming back

Dummy 03:33
I am here for the crash test Give me a dummy pill to help me rest I am young and dumb and full of empty threats Best be dumbing down your show and tell I’m a poet with a Speak and Spell Do I look like a dummy to you? You think you can say anything to mew And I’ll believe it Leave a dollar for the dumb waiter I will spit the dummy out later While your dummy corporation sells a million shares Everything thing you’ve got it dumb luck Your good fortune leaves me dumbstruck I know it isn’t you that’s talking I’m a poet with a Speak and Spell Do I look like a dummy to you? You think you can say anything to mew And I’ll believe it Your apology’s a dumb show A dummy variable we don’t know There’s a dumdum shell with your name on it It’s too late for you to dummy up Your dumb insolence I’ve had enough My mama didn’t raise no dummy I’m a poet with a Speak and Spell Do I look like a dummy to you? You think you can say anything to mew And I’ll believe it

M.A.D 04:12
I see you every morning On the Brighton train The morning kicks in Like the ghost of a growing pain As you glance at me over your coffee You’re the kind of girl that always breaks my heart I’m the kind of guy that... Don’t get me started When I fall there’s simply no stopping me If you keep looking at me that way I can’t be held account table for my actions This could be the start of something big Like our mutually assured destruction The same guy always sits next to you In a permanent state of meltdown You’re sympathetic But your deadpan answers nearly crack me up You wear that same great coat in all weathers You’ve got a drop dead sense of style Just a shade of a smile from you Is almost too much for me If you keep looking at me that way I can’t be held account table for my actions This could be the start of something big Like our mutually assured destruction After an age of ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ Or sharing a shrug at the state of the weather I thought I’d better try to talk to you The train’s at the station You get up to leave A sudden lurch My hands on your sleeve to steady you And the bomb goes off If you keep looking at me that way I can’t be held account table for my actions This could be the start of something big Like our mutually assured destruction

No Angel 03:22
I surely slept with your woman I probably messed with your man I must have broken up a happy home or two Just to see if I can But does that make me a bad person? Did I do something wrong? Nobody’s perfect I’m no angel in disguise But you knew that all along I might have left without paying Consumed your life’s work for free I might have used my pretty face to get ahead But so would you If you were me But does that make me a bad person? Did I do something wrong? Nobody’s perfect I’m no angel in disguise But you knew that all along You think I played you for a sucker I could have used you I guess If I’m guilty of the things in my head God help me when I am dead But does that make me a bad person? Did I do something wrong? Nobody’s perfect I’m no angel in disguise But you knew that all along
6.
I feel like I have walked in halfway through Was there something I was meant to say to you? Wait a minute Are you leaving? You had me at goodbye And now it’s too late I think you stole the moon And now there’s no way To go back to square one Can we start over? Maybe you’re the one To take me home What is missing from this picture? You had me at goodbye And now it’s too late I think you stole the moon And now there’s no way To go back to square one I took it all for granted I got it wrong If was in front of me All along Turn the clock back Un-sing the song You had me at goodbye And now it’s too late I think you stole the moon And now there’s no way

In a house full of negative equity Your parents call your boyfriend ‘The Entity’ Is that a baby or are you just pleased to see me? Call the Fire Service You’re stuck in your bikini What time do you go online? You commit such unoriginal sin I blame my generation for the stupid mess we’re in You smell of Mother’s Milk and Bubblegum Gin You’re got me over your skin It was a case of doubler indemnity You escaped with a secret identity You killed your daddy with amazing alacrity Is that your baby on tiktok in a babykini? What time do you go online? You commit such unoriginal sin I blame my generation for the stupid mess we’re in You smell of Mother’s Milk and Bubblegum Gin You’re got me over your skin They dragged you back Now you’re stuck in detention You’re taking pills for your fluid retention You’re taking liberties You Mother of Invention The baby died of a lack of attention What time do you go online? You commit such unoriginal sin I blame my generation for the stupid mess we’re in You smell of Mother’s Milk and Bubblegum Gin You’re got me over your skin

Sincerity 02:58
I’m a guy That’s so impractical An easy fix Is like a magic trick to me My father said to me “Son, there’s only one thing that you need to know in this life And you’ll always get by” If you can fake sincerity Then you have got it made I really mean it I won’t lie I’m not intelligent The idiots Guide Is beyond my means I’m not a natural leader Or a team player, by any means But that won’t stop me getting to the top because If you can fake sincerity Then you have got it made I really mean it My father said to me “Son, there’s only one thing that you need to know in this life And you’ll always get by” If you can fake sincerity Then you have got it made I really mean it

10.
I am whispering to you Can you hear what I’m saying? I might start revolutions I might heal your heart And we all want a chance to be heard We are waiting for you To give us a voice I don’t want... Play it out loud
11.
It was ok with you to let me down It was ok with you to laugh about it It was ok with you when they turned away It was ok with you for me to be without You didn’t seem to mind When they did it to someone else You didn’t seem to mind Now they’re doing to you It was ok with you when the streets were in flood It was ok with you when they covered it up It was ok with you when they took my share It was ok with you when you fucked your way to the top You didn’t seem to mind When they did it to someone else You didn’t seem to mind Now they’re doing to you It was ok with you when they burned alive It was ok with you when the children were offered up It was ok with you when you wasted my time It was ok with you Well enough is enough You didn’t seem to mind When they did it to someone else You didn’t seem to mind Now they’re doing to you

Cuckoo 03:31
You woke up in the morning I was there Another hungry mouth to feed Another empty ball of need You took me into your life I’m the cuckoo in the nest And you may yet live to regret The day you took me in I made myself look just like you Changed my shaped just to fit in But over time I shift before your eyes Do I still look the same to you? I’m the cuckoo in the nest And you may yet live to regret The day you took me in Where have all the others gone? Look around It’s just we two If it comes down to him or me Which one do you think I’ll choose? I’m the cuckoo in the nest And you may yet live to regret The day you took me in

Coconuts 02:39

about

Full length album number 24 is a welcome to the dawn of the dumb. Over two imaginary sides – side one (tracks 1-5 – retrogressive) and side two (tracks 6-14 – progressive) we vaguely rock our way through a series of bad decisions.

From teenage pregnancy to populist politics; from falling in love in a time of terror to overdoing the drugs a bit; from the moment you realise you’ve been an idiot in letting someone special go to the moment you end a friendship when you realise you’re being treated like an idiot yourself, these are dumb songs by dumb people for dumb people.

Do I look like a dummy to you?
Obviously.
